Nicci Gilbert and Syleena Johnson to Star in R & B Divas on TV One

Nicci Gilbert ( Carlton aka @MrCatoure) and R & B Singer Syleena Johnson

I can’t wait for this show where my two homies Nicci Gilbert (former lead singer of Brownstone) and R & B Diva Syleena Johnson’s show to air. Yes there are other R & B Divas but these are the two I want to share my Martini Moment with you tonight. I canNOT wait to sit down with Syleena Johnson because I hear she had more than her share of Martini Moments while filming this show. Ok let me give you the cliff notes of what the show is about and who else is on the show.  See below

Ok a little more scoop…

“R&B Divas” (Photo: Alex Martinez)

R&B stars Faith Evans, Nicci Gilbert, Keke Wyatt, Syleena Johnson, and Monifah Carter are joining the reality show circuit. “R&B Divas” will premiere on cable network TV One on Aug. 20 (10 p.m. EST).

The eight-episode, one-hour series chronicles the ladies’ long-running friendship as well as their professional lives and personal challenges.  Spurred by Evans, the quintet comes together to produce a charity album inspired by Whitney Houston. Proceeds from the album will benefit the Whitney E. Houston Academy of Creative and Performing Arts in East Orange, New Jersey. As this project unfolds, so does a candid look at other career and personal issues affecting the divas, including motherhood, divorce, alcohol and physical abuse as well as entrepreneurial pursuits.

More about the show

On the latter front, Gilbert recently unveiled her Curvato fashion line during Full Figured Fashion Week in New York City. And Evans is a partner in Glass Hair Products, which launched in New York City on June 14.

“These ladies have known each other in the industry for quite a while,” says TV One executive VP of original programming and production Toni Judkins. “We aren’t creating relationships for the sake of a television show, so their actions, relationships and emotions are authentic and true to life-and it makes for a powerful narrative.”

Originally titled “Ladies of R&B,” TV One’s “R&B Divas” is filmed primarily in Atlanta, with additional shooting in Washington, D.C., New York and New Orleans. The series is produced for TV One by Thinkfactory Media.  Executive producers are Adam Reed, Adam Freeman, and Leslie Greif; co-executive producers are Phil Thornton, Paul Coy Allen, Faith Evans and Nicci Gilbert. Executive in charge of production for TV One is Jubba Seyyid.

Only at the BET Awards 2012 Will Kevin Hart Beat Out Denzel Washington and Don Cheadle for Best Actor? Can Somebody Pass Me a Drink?

Ok I need the BET awards voting committee to have several seats when they feel the need to give a comic/actor an award for BEST actor over thesbian actors. WOW! First Reality TV Stars are making more money than actors and getting more gigs and now this. Wait! If that don’t beat all then Beyonce wins the award for BEST Video Director of the YEAR over Benny Boom and Hype Williams? Haven’t these guys done several music videos over several decades of years? This is kind of like the DJ’s getting mad that the celebrities (Kanye West, Jermaine Dupri, Idris Elba) started to DJ and take all the DJ Jobs…

Ok this was about as unfair as 3 new actors going to audition for a role of a crazy person and then Bokeem Woodbine showing up to audition after the part had got casted. Oh you already know somebody about to get fired. I know these award shows are turning into popularity contests but I am just saying. Some of these celebrities live for these award shows. Now is it fair? Couldn’t they have just added a category like Best New comedianne turned actor to star in a high box office receipt grossing movie? Or Best R & B artist to Direct a music Video and do a heck of a job? I’m just saying? And now let’s skip over to Mindless Behavior even though I LOVE THE KIDS…you know what? I’m going to let little Mindless Behavior savor the moment. As for the rest of this… No Freaking Comment!

WOW!!!! I definitely need a drink!
